SUMMARY:History in OpenSim: Conquest and Tragedy
DESCRIPTION:In 2012 Spiff received a grant to create a History Virtual World using Opensim. For the next 10 years, he worked with a team of amazing educators to create the Islands of Enlightenment. These islands were dedicated to helping students in grades 6-12 learn through a virtual environment.\nThe results were amazing. Student engagement and improvement in learning outcomes progressed as anticipated. However, keeping the energy and momentum on a large scale started to wane. Tight tech budgets, the compression of the curriculum, wide scale purchasing of lower powered tablet devices, siphoned off high tech learning adventures.\nSo where do we go from here? This session will explore the conquests and tragedies, of learning in a virtual world in K12 spaces.\n\n
